Users provide express written consent to receive SMS text messages from PBRef at the time of account registration. During registration at app.pbref.com/register, referees are shown the following opt-in checkbox directly below the phone number field:

The SMS consent checkbox is unchecked by default, is presented in a clearly labeled separate section titled "SMS Messaging Consent," and must be actively selected by the user independent of completing account registration. No SMS messages are sent without this affirmative opt-in action.
This consent is not a condition of account creation or use of the PBRef platform. Users who do not opt in to SMS will still have full access to the platform and will receive in-app notifications only.
Users may withdraw SMS consent at any time by replying STOP to any message or by visiting their profile at app.pbref.com.
Only registered referees who have provided a valid US or Canadian phone number and actively checked the SMS consent checkbox during registration will receive SMS messages. Coordinators and tournament directors do not receive SMS messages.
PBRef sends the following SMS message types to users who have opted in:

After opting out, you will receive one confirmation message and no further SMS messages will be sent. You may re-enable SMS notifications at any time through your profile settings.
Message frequency varies based on your tournament schedule. You may receive up to one tournament reminder per registered tournament day, plus one SMS per court assignment during active tournament operations. During a single tournament day, court assignment messages may be sent multiple times as coordinators manage court rotations.
Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan. PBRef does not charge for SMS messages — standard carrier messaging rates apply.
PBRef SMS notifications are supported by all major US and Canadian carriers including AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Bell, Rogers, Telus, and others. Carrier support is not guaranteed for all carriers.
Your phone number is used solely for court assignment notifications and tournament reminders. We do not sell, share, or transfer your phone number to third parties for marketing purposes. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
